So, if you have read my about me page, you will know that I have been trying to learn to crochet for many years, without success!

Last summer, I did a two hour beginners crochet lesson where we made a granny square, learned some basics. And although I technically learned to crochet in that session, I still didn’t have a where to begin with a project, and way too impatient to keep making squares.

I bought a pattern in the spring to make a new baby gift, in which I failed after step one (even after looking it up). Although it said beginners, I think it was still a step beyond my abilities. So I found a pattern for a hat (as was told these are quite simple to do) and went for a Minecraft inspired hat for a friend’s son’s Christmas present, pattern from Toluver’s Creations.

All patterns seem to start with a magic circle… Now this is fine but when they start saying use this finger to hold the yarn here and another finger to hold the yarn here, I burst out laughing because of having so many injuries to my fingers, this is a real struggle for me. I persevered and managed in the end and made a magic circle after watching numerous YouTube tutorials – I found Bella Coco magic circle video the easiest to follow. Then the next step, figuring out the double crochet where I went to B.Hooked Crochet & Knitting video for this.

With a lot of playing, concentration and working on my counting skills, I was able to make my first every crochet project. I’m super happy with how this turned out and now onto the next one. Keep an eye on my Instagram account for it.
